Bob Dylan wrote a poem for her and placed it on the jacket of his fourth album. In the s, she recorded the concept album Star with composer-producer Gabriel Yared , which approximately coincided with her interest and additional career as an astrologer. In the late s and early s, she had horoscope programs on French radio and television. It followed her diagnosis with lymphatic cancer in the mids, and a hospitalisation in that led to her being placed in an induced coma. Her life was saved when doctors administered a novel form of radiation. But years of radiation and immunotherapy have caused Hardy immense pain, she said, making it difficult to swallow.

What makes it a good read is her quiet, self-deprecating narrative, which one critic described as English humor. She has a strong will and strong opinions, strongly held, including on the Iraq War, abortion, and the consequences of overpopulation. Her face appeared on Paris Match so regularly that she became the French cover girl of the s. Though she did not hang out with the bohemians and intellectual crowd of the Left Bank, she became associated with the romantic existentialism of the time.
