The plan is easily executed as Meg realized the Griffins believe her to be dead.

However, she soon got tired of the lies and decides to come home. Problem is, Chris doesn't want her to return since he has accrued newfound popularity. As a result, he kidnaps her and keeps her tied up in a warehouse. When she does make it out and exposes Chris, no one seems to care apart from Lois and Brian. So it's not surprising that she is depressed. Another storyline where fans detested Meg's character had to be when she became obsessed with Brian.

After Brian takes Meg to prom, the teenager goes full-on bunny boiler and keeps telling everyone Brian is her boyfriend. When he insists that he isn't, Meg kidnaps him and sexually assaults him. It's one of those instances where fans understood why people felt uncomfortable around her.
