I usually like to take a prayer merc for normal. Nicely counteracts the poison enemies there in A2, is effective enough to replace leech or potions this early on, and the barb can easily boost his defense quite early without gimping without having to give up anything.

Prayer mercs also keep themselves alive a lot better without the need for leech gear. Defiance mercs are especially nice for wolf druids using two handed weapons, as the boost in defense synergizes well with Feral's high leech to help keep him alive without block, and you merc benefits from the extra life of your sage too! For conc barb I would definitely go axe or sword as they have the best one handers to pair with shields. Swords have the benefit of being nice 1H or 2H weapons at the same time to fit your whim, while axes are less stat heavy but more or less the same damage.

Ethereal Death Col sword is pretty awesome, doesn't require strictly weapon ias if you aren't using whirlwind and has tons of powerful mods.

Also consider Last Wish or Grief if you aren't going for whirlwind though Grief works just fine for that too. User Info: AzeaBraxi. Concentrators need shields, not sure if you mean a two hander with a shield due to the barbarian's dual wield or not, but you definitely want to get max block.

AzeaBraxi posted Concentrators need shields No, they don't. Immune to criticals, criticism, negative board level, etc. It was either a prayer merc or Defiance merc, but since i have Shout, I didn't think I'd really need that Defiance merc.
