How does diction affect a story
For example, textbooks are usually written with an objective tone which includes facts and reasonable explanations. The objective tone is matter-of-fact and neutral. In order to identify both the tone of the essay and the mood that it evokes, the reader should examine the style in which the essay is written. The writer creates the essay using particular words. The tone of any essay is directly related to audience and purpose. Tone simply refers to how the author feels towards the subject, or towards something.
It is what the author makes you feel when you read his writings. Rhetorical strategies are the mechanisms used through wording during communication that encourage action or persuade others. Some types of diction are almost never advisable in writing. Aside from individual word choice, the overall tone, or attitude, of a piece of writing should be appropriate to the audience and purpose.
The tone may be objective or subjective, logical or emotional, intimate or distant, serious or humorous. It can consist mostly of long, intricate sentences, of short, simple ones, or of something in between.
Good writers frequently vary the length of their sentences. One way to achieve proper tone is to imagine a situation in which to say the words being written. Diction refers to the quality of a group of words. Good diction includes using the appropriate words to express ideas, words that are formatted appropriately for the context in which they are used, and the words chosen are understandable by the reader. Proper diction helps authors to get their ideas across to their audience.
Poor word choices can distract readers or alienate readers which can result in a misinterpretation of the message or even a total rejection of the message.
When talking about diction, it is possible to be discussing either written words or spoken words. The overall idea is similar regardless of whether the words are written or spoken but there are a few key differences to be aware of. Word choice refers to written words such as prose and poetry and can help establish important aspects of the writing like tone and mood.
A novelist would carefully examine their word choice to be sure that they are accurately establishing mood and will modify diction in dialogue for different characters to be sure that their personality traits shine through the writing. Enunciation refers to spoken aspects of diction such as the cadence with which spoken words are delivered, voice inflections, energy that a speech contains, etc. For example, an orator calling for political mobilization would speak loudly, directly, and clearly in order to emphasize the urgency of their message.
This helps readers to pick up on mood and atmosphere so that the reading can impact them in the way the writer meant to accomplish. Mood and tone are two literary elements that help create the main idea of a story. By doing so, it will help us find meaning in the story or passage and help us feel more connected to the writing.
Tone often describes the writing overall, but the mood of a piece of writing can change throughout it.
